Sailing Through.

With Gas prices getting higher, Metro-cards adding up, and Jet
blue charging for blankets and pillows, it’s no wonder no one wants to leave the house. Lucky for us New Yorkers, we have a mode of transportation that is still free and worth while. I say it with a smile, because people will probably snicker: The Staten Island Ferry! I’m telling you. This is the cheapest mode of free boating I’ve ever had the privilege of riding. Why take all of those expensive cruises, when the Ferry gets close and personal to our favorite liberty- lady of the sea, and Ellis Island! The views at nighttime of the New York skyline and bridges are breath-taking. Plus they have beer! Taking a cruise is now simple and fun. Heck while you’re in Staten Island you can even see a Staten Island Yankee game for $10- dollars. It’s a get-a-way you’ll thank me for. It’s time we take advantage of this freebie. Off-hours are probably more enjoyable. So while people are sitting in their offices, staring at the clock from 9-5, why don’t you and your significant other play hooky and grab a majestic, romantic ferry ride. A free 25 minute vacation in your backyard, who could ask for anything more?

Happy Hours

Nobody likes to drink more than me. Because of that statement I have definitely mastered the “how to get a free drink”. I don’t want to say that being a girl helps, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. But taking my sex away, I have the ultimate answer for you!

NETWORKING HAPPY HOUR!

Usually most Networking events hold a great one or two hour drink special! Not only do you get to schmooze with the variety of party goers, but this means dollar vodka drinks and free shots. I swear, it’s a great way to save money, and in the same while possibly further your career. The more networking events you go to, the more “in the know” you seem. Popular? Smart? Funny? YES! There’s nothing like a vodka soda to break the ice. I’m telling you. With this secret knowledge of how to drink cheap in the city, you will certainly be the most desired VIP!

Finger Lickin Good

I was recently told that Manhattan Mall Food Court will be closing. I say “OH NO”, because this place was a huge source of many of my favorite Fast Food chains ; Wok & Roll, Chicken Bar/Ranch 1, Sbarro’s, Cajun Cafe (home to the world famous “bourbon chicken”), Nathan’s, Arby’s, Arthur Treacher’s, Subway, and the Desert Moon Mexican place. A secret that I wanted to share before this place is completely taken over by JC Penny is Get the Freebies! If you go around lunch time (I’d say 11:30-2:30), the trays and the toothpicks are out. If you’re like me, and sometimes you just don’t want ONE thing, then you know the food court is a great place. It’s a great way to save money. I walk around; I get a piece of chicken. I walk around some more, a slice of quesadilla … It’s really a remarkable place.

If you’re more of an Upper East Side eater try your luck at Eli Zabar’s. This place has more pastries, cheeses and breads for you carb-ies. I say why not take advantage of the taste test. They want you to eat it. Heck, they even give out napkins. Don’t you kids worry! Even if they close the Manhattan Mall food court, there’s still the food court at the South Street Seaport, and they too know how to make a mean General Cho.

I've Joined My Generation

Pitz Here!

It's true. I've held out as long as possible, but now it seems as though I've been struck with the blogging bug. I'll get right down to it: I know the secrets to living cheap in New York City. It's true. I've lived here my whole life (give or take a couple of weak moments when I decided to move to Los Angeles and get fat off boredom, beer and tuna-fish sandwiches). I'm only telling people about my secrets now because i feel its something everyone should know. Its fun to find ways of living cheap in the city, and I'm going to pin point as many as I can hit. Along the way, I may throw in some opinionated suggestions, but thats only fair, right? Take notes.... I got lots to tell you.
